Her PLAN Hires New West Virginia Community Development Coordinator

New West Virginia Community Development Coordinator to strengthen pro-life safety net in The Mountain State.

Her PLAN has hired Katie Rose to serve as West Virginia Community Development Coordinator. Katie will oversee Her PLAN’s state program in West Virginia, bringing together community leaders and local providers to assess and strengthen the pro-life safety net in the state using Her PLAN’s pro-life safety net framework. Rose will also coordinate local Her Community coalitions comprised of public officials, churches, charities, ministries, businesses and individuals that assess the adequacy of their local pro-life safety net and identify opportunities to expand resources that address unmet needs. She will continue work in previously launched Her Communities in Huntington and the Ohio Valley.

Rose is a sixth generation West Virginia native and currently resides in her hometown of Martinsburg. She graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in government and international politics with a minor in legal studies. After interning in the White House Press Office, she served as regional communications director for the 2020 Trump presidential re-election campaign. She graduated from University of Richmond law school in 2023 and worked for Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin before joining the staff of Representative Riley Moore (R-WV). In between these positions, Katie Rose won the title of Miss Virginia 2023 and spent the year traveling the state and raising awareness for her platform of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking prevention. 

After years of working in Virginia and Washington, D.C., joining the Her PLAN team is a combination of both her professional goals and personal interest. When Rose’s mother became pregnant when she was about 40 years old, her biological father pushed her to get an abortion. “But that pregnancy was me, and she decided to have me,” said Rose. “I am someone who could have not been here, and I’ve dedicated my life to public service and serving my community.” Her mother was a lawyer for thirty years before recently becoming a judge in the local area. Rose followed her footsteps into the legal profession and now works in the same community, strengthening the pro-life safety net for all mothers and their babies.  

Even with the lifesaving laws in place in West Virginia that protect babies through all nine months of pregnancy, abortion drugs are still being trafficked into the state. Abortionists establish clinics just across the border in pro-abortion states to intentionally pressure women and help empower their abusers. While West Virginia works to protect moms and babies, there is still work to be done to ensure moms and babies are empowered in their choice for life and met with a community of neighbors ready to support them. This is the work Rose looks forward to doing for the state that generations of her family have called home. “I just feel completely indebted to the people here because they’re the same people that made me,” said Rose.  

Rose is honored to be the continuation of Her PLAN in West Virginia and combat the false narrative that the pro-life movement only cares about babies being born and not mothers and their lives after birth. “I want to be a part of the narrative that against all odds, we want both mother and the baby to have a wonderful life.” Rose will continue working in Her Communities started in Huntington and Ohio Valley. She is excited to work closely with Ohio Community Development Coordinator Morgan David and collaborate across the different sides of the river to provide more impactful support to their communities.  

Outside of her work with Her PLAN, Rose is the Republican nominee for West Virginia House of Delegates District 96, an area which includes her hometown of Martinsburg.
