Her PLAN Hires New North Carolina Community Development Coordinator
New North Carolina Community Development Coordinator to strengthen pro-life safety net in The Tar Heel State.
Her PLAN has hired Nichole Hazuka to serve as North Carolina Community Development Coordinator. Nichole will oversee Her PLAN’s state program in North Carolina, bringing together community leaders and local providers to assess and strengthen the pro-life safety net in the state using Her PLAN’s pro-life safety net framework. Hazuka will also coordinate local Her Community coalitions comprised of public officials, churches, charities, ministries, businesses and individuals that assess the adequacy of their local pro-life safety net and identify opportunities to expand resources that address unmet needs. In the months ahead, Nichole will travel the state to meet with local community partners before strategically focusing on individual communities. She has a dream that one day, no woman in North Carolina will feel like abortion is her only option due to a lack of support.
Prior to joining Her PLAN, Hazuka worked as a physician assistant while volunteering for free women’s clinics and serving underprivileged women. She also spent time volunteering in pregnancy centers and with Every Mother’s Advocate, during which she learned how hard it is to locate trusted resources for abortion-vulnerable mothers.
Her love for babies from a young age developed into pro-life advocacy, starting with a presentation she gave when she was only in sixth grade. Since then, she has continued educating others on this topic that has inspired her life’s work. Hazuka herself is the product of an unexpected pregnancy born to a single mom. She recognizes her mom’s enormous strength in choosing life but also had an intimate view of the hardship that results when communities are unequipped to wrap around their neighbors with support.
Then, this reality became even more personal for her, when she experienced her own unexpected pregnancy while in college. Suddenly, she was the person who needed someone to come alongside her and meet her with needed resources. Since making that choice for life for her and her now 15-year-old son, Hazuka has devoted her life to serving in pregnancy centers and women’s health as much as possible. She provides hope through her story and sharing the love of Jesus whenever she can. “Only God can turn your hardest moments into your greatest blessings.”
When she first learned about Her PLAN, Hazuka saw the solution to the problem she had noticed during her time as a client advocate and was eager to help make it easier for pregnancy centers to access resources for their clients. “It’s a shame there are incredible organizations out there that people don’t know exist,” said Hazuka. “How do we close the gap of connecting the resource with the person who actually needs it?”
In addition to expanding access to resources through Her PLAN’s directory, she is excited to help communities build resources to empower moms to choose life for themselves and their babies. Using the Pathways platform, she hopes to help community members to find their unique place to serve in the pro-life safety net. With all the negativity in the world, she also wants to help bring light to all the good work that people are doing for their own neighbors. “I’m passionate about sharing Jesus and making sure that people know He transforms lives and He redeems and He restores,” said Hazuka.
Recently relocated from Arizona, Hazuka lives with her husband and two kids in the Carolinas. In addition to her pro-life advocacy, she leads a virtual Bible study and is in the process of writing a book.
